Oneta M. Barnes

Oneta M. Barnes, 102, formerly of Weatherford, and recently of Hyattsville, Maryland, passed to her heavenly home early on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, April 23, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Funeral services celebrating her long life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 24, at the North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main Street, in Weatherford. Burial will follow at Tin Top Cemetery, south of Weatherford. 

Oneta was born on September 2, 1918, in Greenbottom, West Virginia, to Essie D. McCoy and William Oscar Brumfield. She married Austin O. Barnes in 1961, her children were Joyce Brumfield Holloway, and Stephen Ray Brumfield and wife, Louise, and Austin's children were Wanda Barnes Hardy and husband, John, and Kenneth Barnes and wife, Susie. 

Oneta was a long-time member of North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas. Oneta enjoyed family care first, in Maryland she worked with homeless day center two day a week, and was a member of church Lit-arts) Best known for her out going spirit and quick wit, she enjoyed a sound mind and a general good health to her last days. Joined Hospice and 48 hrs later went to sleep and to wake up with God.

Oneta is survived by her daughters, Joyce Holloway and Wanda Hardy and husband, John; and sons, Stephen Brumfield and wife, Louise, and Kenneth Barnes and wife, Susie. Her nephews, Philip Adkins, Robert Adkins, and James Adams; grandchildren, Karen Holloway and husband, Daryl, Janis Holloway, Seth Brumfield and wife, Laura, Nicole Brand, Chritopher Shannon Barnes, Patti Turner Mitchell, and Sherri Turner Vissor and husband, Phil; seventeen great-grand children and four great great grand children.

In addition to her parents, Oneta was preceded in death by her husband, Austin O. Barnes; and sisters, Ora Anderson, Helen Cretsinger; and brothers, Stanford Brumfield, Clyde Adams, Elmo Adams, and Henry Adams.
