Opal "Hannah" Holcomb

Opal "Hannah" Holcomb, age 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Hannah was born on January 14, 1924, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Gilbert Jones and Alpha Mae (Ball) Jones. She met her beloved husband, Floyd Holcomb, just before World War II, and they married shortly before he was recruited into the Army. After the war, Floyd returned home and began farming in South Texas, while Hannah devoted herself to caring for their home. Although she loved to travel, Floyd remained dedicated to his work on the farm. Despite this, Hannah ventured around the globe, exploring Europe, Asia, Russia, China, and many other places.

Hannah had a passion for decorating and always found joy in making things beautiful; if not for her role as a homemaker, she would have pursued a career as an interior decorator. She was actively involved in gardening, flower clubs, and bridge clubs, and she cherished traveling with her friends. Hannah was a past matron of the Eastern Star and attended the Methodist Church, in LaFeria, Texas, where she enjoyed fellowship and Sunday lunches with her dear friends. Following the passing of her husband, Floyd, in 2005, she relocated to the Fort Worth area in 2013, eventually settling in Weatherford.

Hannah was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Mae Jones; her brother, Haden "Sam" Jones; and her husband, Floyd Ray Holcomb.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Haden Holcomb and his wife, Karen, of Weatherford, Texas; her two grandchildren, Kristen Pilkington and her husband, Jeff, and Justin Holcomb; and her great-grandson, Greyson Pilkington.

A memorial service to honor Hannah's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, in Weatherford, Texas, with James Plowman officiating.

In memory of Hannah, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee.
