Pat was born September 25, 1938, in Belton, Texas, and passed away from Covid on January 26, 2021, at the age of 82. Pat was the son of Clifton and Rowena Cook. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Joyce Workman.
He graduated from Killeen High School, Howard Payne University, and later with a Master of Mathematics from LSU. He taught at Richfield High School in Waco for five years, Sam Houston in Arlington, and worked as an engineer at General Electric. He then decided to return to his love of teaching. He began his career at Weatherford College in the fall of 1970, and taught there thirty-six years, including the years he served as the Math/Science Division Director. He officially retired in May 2006.
He was a faithful member of North Side Baptist Church since 1970, where he taught Sunday School Class for many years, was a deacon, and chairman of the scholarship committee.
He coached Pee Wee Football, Little League Baseball, and Little League Softball. Pat was an avid Rangers fan and loved all sports, but most of all loved watching the grandchildren play their sports.
Pat was awarded the Jack Harvey Exemplary Teacher award at Weatherford College; Faculty Member of the Year; Optimist of the Year; Who’s Who in Texas Today. He was instrumental in forming the Coyote Area Math Championship at Weatherford College.
Once in an interview he was asked to describe himself. His answer was “loyal, dedicated and a perfectionist.” He was also asked, Once you leave this world, what do you want people to remember? He said, “I want people to remember that I loved and was faithful to God, my family and my friends. Also, I was willing to and did serve others as opportunities were given. These ideals are my goal, but I readily admit I am far short of reaching them.”
Pat is survived by wife, Jean, of 62 years; sons, Paul Cook of San Antonio, and Mark Cook and wife, Rissa of Santo; daughter, Carol Brown and husband, Mitch of Frisco; eight grandchildren, Zane Cook, Reese Cook, Crystal Cook, Braxton Brown, Brooklynn Brown, Heather Debolt, Eryk Cook, Peyton Cook; aunt, Leola Sutton; brother, Glen Cook of Kansas; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
