First Sergeant Peter Jerome Lynch, SR, USMC Retired, 81, of Granbury, Tx, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at his residence, 47 years after surviving combat action during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, where he received his first of two Purple Heart awards. Peter enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 to fight in the Korean War, left service to raise his family and reenlisted in 1967 to serve in Vietnam. He proudly served for a total of 24 years, earning a second Purple Heart, the Navy commendation Medal, the combat Action Ribbon, and numerous other decorations and honors including serving as part of the Honor Guard for President Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Edith Lynch of Wisconsin, and his only sibling Lillian Wyrick ( Leonard) of California. Also left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Mildred Lynch, along with his children, Katharine Howard (Jeff) of Pleasant View, VA; Christopher Lynch of Weatherford , TX ; Patricia Costello (Bob) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Peter Lynch Jr (Risa) of Chesapeake, VA.
Peter is also survived by his five grandsons: Corey Howard of Lynchburg, VA ; Jeffrey Lynch of Falls church VA, Christopher Lynch (Jenny) of Chesapeake, VA ; Emmet Howard of Pleasant View, VA, and Samuel Howard of Pleasant View, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a veteran-focused charity, such as the wounded warrior Project, Disabled American veterans, etc.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday June 21, 2015 at 3:30 pm in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
