Phyllis Ann "Pat" Turnbough McDonald, aged 80, passed away peacefully following a long illness on Sunday, May 5, in Weatherford, Texas. She was born in Kingsville, Texas, on March 27, 1944, to Felix and Bess Turnbough. She was a graduate of Aransas Pass High School. She married Will McDonald at the Goliad Church of Christ on July 24, 1964. They were both attending college at Texas A&I University where he played football and they both studied education.
She served for 32 years in education as a teacher, diagnostician and principal in Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Gregory Portland and Rockport Fulton ISDs. During her career she earned two master’s degrees, one in education and the other in mid-management. Pat was one of the first principals in Texas to be awarded the status of Mentor School at Rockport Early Childhood Center.
Her parents instilled in their children a responsibility to give back to their community and Pat took that to heart. She volunteered for many organizations and raised funds to help them. After retirement, she fulfilled her dream of owning a ladies’ boutique, Days Gone Bye! in Aransas Pass and Victoria, Texas. She used her boutique in Victoria as a platform to support many community causes.
Pat was baptized while attending the Ingleside church of Christ where she, Will and their small children worshiped. Following her baptism, she used her teaching skills to teach children's Bible classes in Ingleside, Port Aransas, Rockport and Victoria. While worshipping at the Blyth Road Church of Christ, one of her favorite accomplishments was working alongside brothers and sisters of the Blyth Road and Falmouth, Jamaica Church of Christ. Pat taught Bible lessons and distributed school supplies and organized Vacation Bible School for the Jamaican children. She truly believed Jesus is the Way home.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Nobles Turnbough, Sr. and Bessie Irene Terry Turnbough, and her brother, Felix Nobles Turnbough, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Wilburn "Will" Lane McDonald, Sr.; daughter, Wendy McDonald (Scott); sons, Will McDonald (Deb) and Jim McDonald; grandsons, Colton Allen (Samantha), Wesley Allen (Ashley), Wyatt McDonald, and Luke Benson; great grandson, Barrett Lane Allen; and her sister, Irene Turnbough Irey (Joe).
