Prissy Young was born to Clyde and LaRue Young, on June 16, 1947, in Weatherford, Texas, where she lived her whole life. Prissy attended Travis Elementary, Weatherford Middle School, Weatherford High School (Class of 65). She continued her education at Weatherford College receiving an Associate Degree, and then at East Texas State University graduating in 1969 with a BA in Education.
She graduated from ETSU on Friday and went on to work the following Monday at Weatherford High School. She taught physical education and coached volleyball, basketball, boys' golf, and track. She also was the cheerleading sponsor. She loved her job, and more importantly, she loved her students, especially the girls. Her entire teaching career was with Weatherford High School.
Prissy was 14 and at Brock watching the girls' basketball game when she first met Leo. But the spark of love could not be nurtured then. Leo was called into the service, and when he returned, he knew he needed to find Prissy! So, he went and got a bunch of dimes for the payphone. He started calling and called Prissy's Uncle Lee who told Leo if he called Clyde Young, Prissy would probably answer the phone. He did and she did! They dated just a few months and sealed their love in a covenant of marriage at Couts United Methodist Church on July 30, 1971.
After 14 years of marriage, Prissy and Leo were delighted to welcome their daughter into their lives, and they named her Brittny Neely. She was and still is the joy of their lives. Prissy loved being a mom and left teaching to be involved with their daughter as a PTA mom, volunteer room mother, and "uber" for Brittny and her friends. Prissy was so proud of Brittny when she graduated from college and became a teacher in Weatherford and subsequently married Jeremy.
Prissy's heart was full of love when she became Momo to her grandsons, Jack and Luke.
After her teaching career and raising a daughter, Prissy continued to be active in the community.
She returned to Weatherford High School as a Testing Coordinator. She served on the Manna Board and Senior Center serving Meals on Wheels. She attended WHS football games, basketball games, volleyball matches, always supporting and encouraging whomever she could.
Prissy's leadership and service has been recognized by many. She was a Lifetime Member of Wesleyan Service Guild Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was recognized as a Lifetime Member PTA at Austin Elementary (2007), a District Alumni WHS (2007), the WHS Hall of Fame (2008), an Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce (2015). Also, she and Leo received the WHS Roger's Roo Pride Award.
Since its inception, she was the coordinator of the Weatherford Athletic Sports Hall of Fame.
And she was an ardent member of the Weatherford Fab 5.
She was a member of Couts United Methodist Church, and in 2000, transferred her membership to Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She faithfully served in leadership in both congregations.
Prissy deeply loved her family, people, and sports!
