R.C. Neely of the Brock Community died Monday June 4, 2018, at the age of 98.
R.C. was born on April 29, 1920, in Taylor County near Abilene, Texas to Homer Leon Neely and Beulah Lee (White) Neely.
In December of 1923, Mr. and Mrs. Neely, R.C., and R.C.’s grandparents moved to Parker County, just north west of Weatherford. They came to this area in two covered wagons. They also moved around to various places, including Whitt, Advance, and Mount Carmel. R.C. started to school at Advance. After they moved, he attended Shady Grove, where Mrs. Kell Terry was his teacher. Her husband, Kell Terry, was a barber in Weatherford and cut R.C. and Leo’s hair for many years. In January 1929, the Neely family moved to the Dennis-Brock area. R.C. went to school at Dennis for two years before moving to the Brock area. He went to school at Brock through the ninth grade and then quit school.
In August 1939, on a Sunday afternoon, he met Lula Mae Hudson at her grandparents’ home. He took her to church that night and they attended Brock Church of Christ for some time. On October 5, 1941 they were married.
R.C. was a farmers’ son, so he worked at home and when he could he helped others on their farms. In 1941 thru 1943, he worked at Fort Wolters while it was being built. In August of 1944, he went to work on a dairy south of Weatherford and worked there thru 1946. Barbara Sue, their first child, was born while at the dairy. Douglas Leo was born eleven months and thirteen days later. By this time, R.C. was working for Bradfish Feed Mill. In 1955, they built their house north of Brock where they still lived. In 1958, R.C. went to work for TX DOT and retired from there in March 1983.
R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his only brother, Carl Ross Neely (1956).
He is survived by his wife of seventy-seven years-eight months, Lula Mae Hudson Neely; daughter, Sue Ranspot (Jimmie); son, Leo (Prissy); three grandchildren, Kevin Ranspot, Jason Ranspot, and Brittny Neely Glidewell (Jeremy).
