Richard "Dick" Worley Jr.

Richard “Dick” DeWitt Worley, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully into Heaven surrounded by his family on October 13, 2018 at his home in Aledo, Texas.
Dick was born in Chanute, Kansas on January 16, 1931 to Richard DeWitt Worley, Sr. and Iva (Childers) Worley. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Casebier in 1951 and served in the army for 2 years. Dick was inspired to pursue a missionary life in Asia because of two significant influences in his life—the teaching of First Baptist Church of Chanute, as well as the life of two great-uncles who served as missionaries in China. In 1959, Dick, Charlotte, and their 2 young sons stepped in faith and boarded a ship for Thailand, where they served faithfully for four decades. During those years God blessed Dick and Charlotte with two daughters born in Thailand and with a thriving ministry with the Chinese-Thai people. After retiring in 1995 and relocating to Aledo, Dick continued to love the Thai community by preaching in local Thai churches and traveling to Thailand frequently. He was also an active member at Redeemer Bible Church in Ft. Worth.
Dick’s life epitomized these things: adventure, kindness, joyfulness, silliness, laughter, and sacrificial love. He was a teacher, pastor, administrator, counselor, and friend. In Thailand, he partnered with the Maitrichit Chinese Baptist Church and helped start Sammuk Christian Academy—a Christian boarding school located by the seaside. The signature of Dick’s ministry was relationships. He was able to impact many lives over the course of his life because he cared about people. His life motto was “Serve Christ Always” (SCA), which he did graciously and sacrificially. The timeless words of Acts 20:22,24 framed over Dick’s desk describe well the drive behind his missionary calling: “And now, in obedience to the Holy Spirit I am going … to complete my mission and finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do …”.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Richard Worley, mother, Iva Worley, 2 brothers, Doyle Worley and Dale Worley, 2 sisters, Barbara Worley and Phyllis (Worley) Small, and granddaughter, Sofia Morales. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Charlotte Worley; 4 children: John (Lana) Worley, David (Carol) Worley, Janis (Jeff) Hoffman and Sara (Pablo) Morales; 10 grandchildren: John Worley, Adric (Patricia) Worley, Aliana (Stephen) McFadden, Colt Worley, Caitlin (Jason) Mann, Tucker Hoffman, Aubri Hoffman, Alex Morales, Max Morales, Lucia Morales, and 2 great granddaughters, Aurora and Cora McFadden.
Funeral services will be held at Redeemer Bible Church, Ft. Worth, TX on October 20th at 2:00 PM. The second service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Chanute, KS on October 27th at 9:30 am followed by a graveside burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
