Richard Hall Galley

Dr. Richard “Dick” Hall Galley of Willow Park, TX, returned to his heavenly home on March 14, 2016.  He was 74 years old.  His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him during his last days and ultimately gave him peace.
Dick was blessed with a loving family.  He is survived by his wife, Sherida Galley, his son, Bill Galley, and grandsons Braden and Trevor, of Bedford, TX, and his daughter Jaedeanne (Galley) Shaver and granddaughter Ruby Shaver of Fort Worth, TX; his brothers Tom Galley of Huntsville, TX, and Steve Galley of Green River, WY; he is preceded in death by his sister, Sue Galley Stewart of Casper, WY. 
Dick was born to the late Robert and Mary Galley in Casper, WY, on October 22, 1941, the eldest of four.  He attended Casper College and Colorado State University on rodeo scholarships, ultimately graduating with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1965.  Throughout school, Dick also enjoyed playing the trombone in a jazz band and playing basketball.
Dick proudly served our country as a Captain in the United States Army, spending 2 years in Vietnam and receiving an Army Commendation Medal in honor of his service.  He married Sherida on March 22, 1976, in Denver, CO.
Dick was an accomplished equine veterinarian – he practiced medicine on major race tracks in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas from 1968 until 1993, and then spent the remainder of his career with a clinical veterinary practice in Willow Park, TX, where he specialized in the treatment of lameness problems of the equine athlete.  He was the author of countless publications, professional papers, and journal articles, the chairman of committees of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, and a popular speaker at veterinary conferences.
Dick began participating in rodeos at the age of 13 and had a long and successful rodeo career – team roping was his passion and he loved spending time in the arena with his friends.  He was an active and dedicated member of the Parker County Cowboy Church as well as the Men’s Ministry at Christ Chapel Bible Church.  He volunteered his time with the Young Pro Team Roping Camp where he helped young Christians grow in their faith and their rodeo skills.  Dick also enjoyed hunting and photography.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 18, 2016, at Parker County Cowboy Church.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick’s life.  He will be laid to rest at the Columbarium DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX, at a private ceremony.  In lieu of flowers, a donation is requested to be made in the memory of Dick Galley to the Parker County Cowboy Church or the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group at the Aledo United Methodist Church.
