Richard Secrist

December 14, 1936 — January 2, 2022

Richard L. Secrist (Dick), 85, passed away on January 2, 2022. He was born on December 14, 1936, in Blawnox, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1946 to homestead a property they purchased to build their house and along with the road (Thane Road) to receive electricity and water. For several years, they hauled all building materials, including large windows for about a mile up a trail, for the construction. The family was very proud of what they accomplished.

After attending Juneau High School, he served in the Air Force 1955-59 as a Military Police officer. He then worked for the Juneau Police Department from 1959-62. He moved to Washington State in 1962, to drive trucks across the states. After returning to Juneau and back to the PD, he also worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. In the 1970’s, Richard joined the Teamsters and drove for several years on the North Slope working on the Alaska Pipeline. After it’s completion, he drove trucks for Red Samm Construction. In 1986, he and his wife, Mary Agnes Secrist, moved to Weatherford, Texas to retire.

His passion was being a car and truck enthusiast. He loved working on them, restoring and cleaning them. All of his vehicles were always clean, polished and in great condition.

Richard is survived by his children, Gayle Carroll (Greg), Cindy Wikle, Richard Secrist II, all of Spokane, Washington, Terri Jo Hobbs of Arkansas, his brother Robert Secrist of Ft Meyers, FL, step daughters Colleen Campbell of Juneau, AK, Catherine Featherstone of Weatherford, TX, Shannon Pusich of Snoqualmie, WA, and Patricia Marko of Corinth, TX. Richard also has numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Mary Agnes Secrist, his parents Robert H. Secrist and Carolyn E. Secrist Linehan, and his brother Russell Secrist.

He will be interred at the Shrine of St Therese in Juneau, AK on February 9th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a cause or charity of your choice, in Richard’s name.
