Robert L. Vanover, 84, passed away on August 17th, 2016, at his home in Weatherford, Texas.
Graveside Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, August 20, at Tin Top Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening, August 19, from 6 until 8, at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford.
As with everything in his life, Bob fought cancer with dignity and courage. Robert was born April 30, 1932 in Gatliff, Kentucky to William and Mae Vanover. He was the youngest of eight children. At age 17, Robert joined the Army, and faithfully served his country in Korea and Vietnam. During his military career he earned the distinction of becoming an Army Ranger among other commendations. Following his service in the military, Robert was a successful business owner.
On October 6, 1952, Robert married the love of his life, Roberta Riley. Robert and Roberta were married for 59 years and were separated only by her passing in 2011. Robert was a loving husband, a gentle father, and a faithful friend. Robert was active in his children and grandchildren’s lives. Nothing gave him more pleasure than watching his family grow and flourish. His leadership and legacy will continue for years to come.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings and grandsons Edward George Kaspari and Christopher Lee Solomon. He is survived by his children, Bobby and Jennifer Vanover, Deby and Mark Wolf, Teresa and Bob Kaspari, Edie and Lee Solomon, Ken and Shelley Vanover, Thomas and Kristie Vanover and his grandchildren, Rene, Jennifer and husband Larry, Roberta and husband Marshall, Ashley and husband Reed, Steven, Elizabeth, Thomas and his wife Amanda, Katelyn, and William; great grandchildren, Calvin, Cheyenne, Trevor, Haley, Brooke, Becca, and Riley.
