Robert Mitchell Gibson was born August 22, 1958 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and died December 12, 2023, in Weatherford, Texas. He worked as a Senior Programmer/Analyst for Fidelity Investments. Progressive Multiple Sclerosis made him give up his work in 2004.
Robert’s greatest joy was his son, Will. Shortly before his passing, although bed-bound and unable to move, he was able to get a hug from his namesake – grandson, Robert, was finally tall enough to reach him.
Robert’s pleasure was making people smile or laugh with his quirky perspective on things. He was the class clown at Arlington High School, the “smooth operator” in his fraternity at Texas Tech, and a dancer extraordinaire; he was the life of the party.
Robert accepted Jesus on Easter Sunday, 2004. He kept his personality as God changed his heart. Wife, Donna, had a front-row seat to his transformation.
“Rob” is survived by his wife, Donna; stepdaughter, Paula Harney; son, William Gibson and wife, Noelle; grandchildren: Evelynn, Victoria, and Robert; four siblings: Mardie Ussery and husband, Dale “Skip”; Chris Gibson and wife, Pixie; Daniel Gibson and wife, Kathy; and Ralph Gibson; and nieces and nephews.
Robert and Donna say thanks to the doctors, nurses, and therapists who cared for him as well as the many in-home caregivers God supplied, especially Chelsey, who laughed with him through the last 10 years of his life.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at East Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas.
