Rockey Allen Burns, age 61 of Weatherford, TX died on Monday, February 13, 2012 following a short battle with cancer.
Rockey was born September 21, 1952 in Weatherford, TX, residing there his entire life. He and Barbara Strain were married July 1, 1972 in Texas City, TX. He was self-employed as an auto body paint and repair man and welder. Rockey enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the joys of his life, his eight grandchildren. He also loved to go fishing, build and “attempt” to fly RC airplanes and tell a good joke.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Barbara Burns; aunt, Mary Lee Fulks of Weatherford; sister, Nancy Brantley and husband Paul, of Weatherford; brother, Kenneth Burns and wife, Frances of Livingston; son, Bill Burns and wife, Tracy and children, John, Kayleigh and Allen of Perrin; daughter, Jennifer Trester and husband, Jason and children, Addison and Mason of Mineral Wells; son, Justin Burns and wife, Crystal and children, Layton, Taytum and Kortlyn of Poolville; special “extra” child, Jon Johnson and wife, Misty and children, Cash and Cason of Minot, ND; sister-in-law, Louella Merrell of Marion; brother-in-law, Dale Strain and wife, Margaret of Mineral Wells; special friends of many years, Rex Hendrick and David Gibson; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of lifelong friends.
Rockey was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Olan (Bill) Burns; mother, Johnnie Mae Harris; father-in-law, Dwight Strain and mother-in-law, Willie Dee Strain and wonderful friend, Boxe Daugherty and favorite cousin, Mike Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday at Soda Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Parker County Committee on Ageing or a cancer charity of your choice.
