Roy Dean New, 87, of Weatherford, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 27, in Fort Worth.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1 P.M., on Friday, March 2 P.M, at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main Street, in Weatherford. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 until 7 at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street in Weatherford and additionally from 12 P.M. until the time of the service, Friday at the church. Burial will immediate follow the service at Memory Gardens in Weatherford.
Roy was born September 2, 1930 in Rising Star, Texas to Rufus and Ruby New. Roy proudly served his country in the US Army. While on leave in Odessa, Roy met the ‘love of his life’, Betty Baird, and married soon after on September 26, 1953. Together they had two children, Larry and Denise. Roy was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation for 32 years. Upon retirement, he became a residential construction builder in which he taught his skills to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity, knowledge, and his ability to ‘fix anything.’ Roy was a “Fix it” man who enjoyed repairing and tinkering with his cars. Most of all, Roy was a devoted family man who taught his family how to work to achieve their goals.
Roy is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Denise Blue (David Rolllins) and Larry Dean (Jennifer) New; grandchildren, Jamie (Andrew) Cavett, Robert (Amanda) New, Crystal (Luke) Jones, and Cody (Elisabeth) Blue; great-grandchildren, Addison, Wylie, Easton, Winnie Jane, Caroline, and Sidney; by his brother, James New; numerous nieces and nephews; and by his best friend, Richard Parker.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by 9 siblings.
