Ruby Joyce Followill

July 2, 1933 — January 19, 2022

Ruby Joyce Followill was born on July 2, 1933, in Marianna, Arkansas to Roy Franklin and Vera Loyce (Hardin) Casteel. Surrounded by her family, she went Home on January 19, 2022 in Weatherford, Texas. Ruby Joyce grew up in Arkansas and Texas, attending school in Weatherford until her senior year of high school. She completed high school in Marianna after her family moved back to Arkansas. She met Donald Followill, the love of her life, while working as a switchboard operator at the Bell Telephone office on Weatherford’s downtown square. They married April 15, 1955. Together, they raised two children: Teri Lynne and John, later welcoming a son-in-law (Howard) and a daughter-in-law (Lisa) to the family along with five grandchildren. Donald passed away in 1986, leaving Ruby Joyce to carry on. After being a homemaker for many years, she began a 21-year career at Campbell Memorial Hospital, going from cashier to personnel director, and then retiring from the accounting department.

Ruby Joyce was an active member at North Side Baptist Church for well over 50 years, and after retirement, helped with the Home Ministry and the Benevolent Committee, serving whenever needed. She also loved singing with the Foundation Singers, spending many afternoons at nursing homes singing to the residents.

She was an active member of Brock and Weatherford Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star, holding several offices, both locally and state-wide in her retirement years. Even with her memory failing she could recite her part of the meeting without faltering.

Leaving behind to continue her legacy are her children: Teri Lynne and husband Howard Hubbard, of Weatherford and John and wife Lisa Followill, of Granbury. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Taryn and her husband Ron Rogers, Jennifer and her husband Phillip Egdorf, Lindsey and her husband Nicklaus Godby, Dallas Followill and Brittany and her husband Wade Mendoza; as well as four great-grandchildren Gillian Davis, Blake Cason, Jerrickah and Xander Godby, with a fifth great-grandchild on the way. Her sister, Janie and her husband Bobbye Spann and her sister-in-law, Bobbye Followill, along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive her.

Ruby Joyce loved having her family around her, sharing stories, and laughing together. Reading her Bible and playing the piano often brought comfort to her. Until her health slowed her down, she enjoyed shopping and traveling, having visited most of the fifty states.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the main worship center at North Side Baptist Church with burial immediately following in East Greenwood Cemetery. The family will accept visitors on Friday evening (the 28th) from 6-8 p.m. also at North Side Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Home Ministry at North Side Baptist Church would be appreciated.
