Samuel Barton Fox passed away on December 9, 2011, less than six months after the death of his wife and true love of 57 years, Jeanne Fox. He was born on January 25, 1930 in Abilene, Texas as the oldest of the four sons of Norma Billingsley Fox and Lige Fox. Sam was 30 minutes older than his twin brother, Jim and never let a day pass the he didn’t remind him.
Sam proudly and patriotically served his country in the US Navy from 1949 to 1955, first as a Fire Controlman on the USS Knox and then in the US Naval Reserve. Sam had a long and distinguished career first with Convair and later with General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin for over 40 years in many positions ranging from the Assembly Line to Inspections to Service Engineering. Sam was devout in his faith and service to Jesus Christ being a founding member of Calvary United Methodist church and eagerly taking on any job to serve the Lord. Sam’s love for his family knew no bounds. As a husband he doted on his wife. As a father he treasured his children. And as a grandfather he spoiled his grandchildren.
Beyond the joys of his church and family, Sam always considered himself a farmer. Many hot summer afternoons were spent in his fields of vegetables teaching his children the joys of hard work. Sam’s pride and joy was his farm and his tractor and the vegetables and fruits canned and ready for big family dinners.
