Sammie Ray Davis, Sr., passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 79, on Friday, July 17, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was born February 29, 1936, to S.J. and Edith Davis, in Sturdivant, Texas. After graduating from Millsap High School, he attended TCU. Sammie was a welder, boilermaker, and jack of all trades, but always said “A master of none.” He retired from Jamak. He loved fishing and enjoyed making things with his hands. He was a member of Holders Chapel Methodist Church in Cool, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson-in-law, Joshua Wade Petrie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 plus years, Wanda Tomerlin Davis; sister, Renalda Leatherman; three children, Sherri Lynn Huddleston; Sammie R. Davis, Jr, and wife, Tanya; and Shane Davis and wife, Jo Anne; eight grandchildren, Jodi Bolton and husband, Chad; Lacey Burton and husband, Casey; Candee Petrie-Sparks and husband; Paige Davis; Megan Davis; Tyler Quinn-Davis; Alyssa Quinn-Davis; and Ethan Davis; six great-grandchildren, Reece Bolton; Mackenzee Burton; Mallory Burton; Halee Petrie; Samee Petrie; and Josh Petrie.
Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2015, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Holders Chapel Methodist Church. Interment at Holders Chapel Cemetery
