Sharon Joyce Hasley (Jones) was called to her home on January 22, 2022. Born August 20, 1950, to Marlin Royce Jones and Wilma Joyce Green, she called Weatherford, Texas her home for her lifetime. She was married to Michael Truett Hasley on August 30, 1968, and together they raised three sons, celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary in 2021.
Sharon was a committed volunteer for many community organizations and causes. She served several years as a Cub Scout Summer Camp Director at Leonard Scout Reservation in Granbury, Texas, and was always ready to lend a hand where needed. She beamed with pride as all three of her boys earned Eagle Scout. Each of her sons went on to serve in the U.S. Navy and later built successful careers in law enforcement, the electrical infrastructure industry, and firefighting. She always had an anxiety-triggering story of her son’s latest emergency room visit or close call. Together, her sons earned their worried-but-proud mother more than her fair share of gray hair.
Sharon served her community as a special education instructor and substitute teacher with Weatherford ISD for many years, earning the love and respect of her students. For decades after retirement, she would be recognized by former Weatherford students who invariably told her how much she meant to them. She and Michael were among the founding board members and volunteers of the Weatherford Soccer Association, introducing the game to Parker County and giving an affordable youth sports option to the community. She was a tireless advocate for underprivileged children and a force to be reckoned with when she saw an injustice.
At the age of 48, Sharon embarked on her deferred quest to graduate from college. In 1998, she and her youngest son Jeffrey started college together at Weatherford College (where both mother and son dropped Algebra together after they both bombed their midterm exam!). She transferred to the University of Texas at Arlington to study Psychology, where only a cancer diagnosis could slow her down. After a courageous battle, she proudly wore the title of cancer survivor for more than twenty years. She then returned to UTA and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2004, fulfilling her journey. Afterward, she enjoyed attending Relay for Life of Parker County and local American Cancer Society events for many years.
She and Michael were active members of Northside Baptist Church, serving in the Packs of Love and Operation Christmas Child ministries. Inspired by her sons’ service, she was also a proud Parker County REACT volunteer.
After retirement, she and Michael rejoiced in reuniting with their fellow Weatherford High School alumni every chance they could. She and Michael traveled frequently to see their grandsons grow. Her grandchildren have even begun to carry on the family tradition of community service that she kindled.
She is survived by her loving and faithful husband Michael Truett Hasley of Weatherford, Texas, and by her sons Bradley Michael Hasley of League City, Texas, Brian Paul Hasley (Jennifer) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jeffrey Sean Hasley (Catheryne) of League City, Texas. She is also survived by her six grandsons, Brandon Michael Hasley, Zachary Conner Hasley, Dylan Paul Hasley, Nicholas Tyler Hasley, Daniel Sean Hasley, and Nathan Charles Hasley. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda Kongable (Skip), Diana Gibson (Wayne), and Tommy Jones (Merrilee), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sharon is entrusted with the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel of Weatherford. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to her most beloved ministry, Packs of Love at Northside Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 910 North Main Street, Weatherford, Texas.
