Sharon Lee Thornton

January 24, 1942 — June 1, 2016

Sharon Lee Mitton Thornton lost her lengthy battle with lung cancer and went to be with our Heavenly Father on June 1, 2016 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends.

Sharon was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on Jan. 24, 1942 to Earl and Dorothy Mitton.  She lived in Pocatello until 1968 when she married James “Big Jim” Thornton who became an instant Daddy and moved Sharon and her 5 children to Texas.  She had different careers but her favorite was being a beautician.  After all the kids were out of school she joined “Big Jim” on the truck and drove semi-trucks with him from Texas to Canada.  Once Jim retired she became a truck driving instructor for Cowtown Driving School, later driving trucks part time for James Young Trucking and ended her working career driving for Albertson’s when she retired to care for Jim. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, her parents, her brother, Gary Mitton and sister, Deanna Jensen.

Sharon is survived by daughters, Ebbie Wooten, Christine Williams, Tracy Simmons (Ron) and Sherry Murphy (Rodney) and son George Thornton (Towi) all of Weatherford, 15 grandchildren, Constance, Stephanie, Michael, Mark, Brandon, Austin, Megan, Ethan, Amanda, Ashley, Bradley, Shelley, Holley, Micah and Matthew and 8 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Robby, Riley, Ellie, Shealyn, Benjamin, Kenley and Baby Kannon who arrived on June 2, 2016, brother Douglas Mitton (Shelly) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and several very special nieces, nephews and friends.
