Sherrill Elizabeth Hash

November 16, 1948 — September 22, 2024

Sherrill Elizabeth Hash, age 75, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Born on November 16, 1948, in Bonham, Texas, to Willie A. and Sallie (Tarpley) Smith, Sherrill was raised in the close-knit community of Edhube, Texas. On February 18, 1977, she married Vince Hash, and together they blended their families with love and grace, something Sherrill took great pride in.

Sherrill and Vince made a lasting impact in Howe, Texas, where they established a successful softball program, so appreciated by the community that the field was named in their honor. In 1994, they moved to Brock, Texas, and became actively involved in supporting local school athletics.

Sherrill’s professional journey was nothing short of inspiring. Entering the aerospace and defense industry at a time when few women were in the field, she began as an Engineer Assistant at Texas Instruments - Raytheon Defense Systems. Through sheer determination and perseverance, she climbed the ranks, overcoming obstacles in her path and becoming a trailblazer for other women with similar ambitions.

Later in life, Sherrill returned to school in her 50s, earning her Bachelor’s Degree, a testament to her lifelong dedication to growth and learning. She proudly retired from both Texas Instruments - Raytheon Defense Systems and Lockheed Martin, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and empowerment.

Throughout her life, Sherrill was deeply committed to bettering her community, always striving to be a source of kindness and light to those around her.

Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents, Willie A. and Sallie Jo Smith; siblings, Dale Smith, Glenn Smith, Sue King, Joe Smith, David Smith, W. A. Smith, Linda Rogers, Ann Brown Pitcock, and Mike Smith.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Vince Hash of Brock, Texas; children, Susan Clark and husband, Kendall, Patty Leek and husband, Wayne, Brandi Merrell and husband, Clay, and Lauren Womble and husband, Austin; grandchildren, E. J. Hodges, Jake Merrell, Garrett Leek, Jessica Leek, Kalen Clark, Vivian Womble, and Tess Womble; great-grandchildren, Levi Hodges, Merrell Hodges, and Ryder Hodges; and her brother, Ronnie Smith.
