Shirley "Sherry" Ann McCants

April 23, 1971 — January 29, 2024

Shirley Ann McCants, 52, passed from this life on Monday, January 29, 2024. Shirley was born April 23, 1971, in Conroe, Texas, to James McCants and Shirley McCants, for whom she was named, but she was most often known as "Sherry" and "Strawberry." To her friends and acquaintances, Sherry had two nicknames “the strawberry lady” and “the bread lady,” because she sold strawberries and homemade banana nut bread after becoming disabled due to health complications.

Sherry had lived in the Weatherford and DFW area since 1999. For many years she worked at the China Garden in Weatherford. She was well known in Weatherford where people were very kind to her. Her greatest quality was she didn’t know a stranger, and she loved to talk and help people.

Throughout her life, Sherry endured so much and there is peace knowing she is no longer suffering. She battled with addiction and her mental health. Sherry had a very hard life that conditioned her to always be nice to others in hopes they would return that favor. People would say “to know her is to love her;” that’s what her children will remember when they hear her name. Although her life was difficult, her greatest accomplishment was birthing six beautiful children. Yet, her struggles made it difficult for her to be a present, functional mother.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Jose Luis Espinoza of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Vanesa Hernandez; daughter, Alejandra Guadalupe Espinoza; daughter, Maria Ermila McCants; and two children from a previous relationship; father, James McCants; brothers, Gary McCants, Daniel McCants, James McCants, Patrick McCants, and Mark Prieto; sister, Ruby Hall; brother-in-law, Jose Fredlico Espinoza; and sister-in-law, Marlyne Espinoza. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Ann McCants, and her daughter, Kaylee McCants.

The family extends their gratitude to everyone who has reached out and helped with the final arrangements and for the kindness extended to Sherry.

There will be a private family visitation in the family room at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086, on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A private graveside service will happen at a later date at Holly Hills Memorial Park, in Granbury, Texas.
