Sidney Bates, 68, of Willow Park, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011. Mr. Bates was born December 17, 1942, in Winchester, Massachusetts, to Elizabeth and H. Nelson Bates.
Mr. Bates served in the United States Air Force in Korea during part of his four year enlistment. He was a proud Longhorn fan. Mr. Bates held a Bachelor ’s degree journalism. He worked at NASA, in Florida, during the 1960s and later worked in advertising and marketing at Radio Shack for twenty-five years. He then worked as a 911 dispatcher for the city of Fort Worth Police Department. After retirement he applied at Wal-Mart and helped open the store in Hudson Oaks where he worked part-time as a photo technician.
Preceding Mr. Bates in death were his parents; a brother, Herb Bates of Georgia; and a sister, Florence Meier of Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Bates; daughters, Veronica Bates, and Tonya Sturgill and her husband John; son, Brett Giles; grandchildren, Brandan and Casey Giles; great granddaughters, Ashlynn and Kamdan Giles; sister, Marilyn Donaher of New Hampshire; brother, Buddy Bates of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, and a special group of four-legged humans, Hazel, Gretel, Spitfire-Brianna, and Orianna.
The family will receive friends at Galbreaith Pickard, Sunday evening, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
At the request of the Bates family, please do not send flower donations in his memory because Mr. Bates will be cremated. Send your memorials to an animal shelter of choice.
