Steven Allen Colwell, 73, of Weatherford, Texas, peacefully passed away, January 16, 2021, after a long battle of cancer. Steve was born, April 19, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, to Joe and Barbara Colwell. He was one of four children.
Steve was married to Pat Condon Colwell, his wife of almost 52 years, on April 26, 1969. Graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1965; then, one year later left to serve a 2-year Spanish speaking mission in Guatemala/El Salvador for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout his life Steve served faithfully through his church callings as a High Councilman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He attended University of Texas Arlington and worked at ML Leddy Brothers Western Store in Grand Prairie where he met Pat. He worked a short time at LTV Aeronautics then became an insurance claims adjuster out of Fort Worth, Texas. Later he pursued a career in public service with the Cleburne Fire Department. After 12 years as a fireman, he made a career change to full-time general contractor in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and surrounding areas. His spare time was spent reading western books, watching old western movies, and mostly riding horses and team roping. This love of team roping even led him to becoming a member of the Johnson County Sherriff’s Posse.
Steve is survived by his wife, Pat Condon Colwell; daughter, Tamara (John) Taylor, and their two children, Blake and Tara Jo Taylor, all of Rhome, Texas; daughter, Leona Bailey, her son, Branson Bailey of Weatherford, Texas; son, Shawn Colwell of Weatherford, Texas; sister, Judy (Terry) Peal of Arlington, Texas; sister, Joyce (Don) Stanfield of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Don Colwell of Tomball, Texas; his aunt, Ruth Berryhill of Plano, Texs; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe and Barbara Colwell.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2251 Bethel Road, Weatherford, Texas, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The family would also like to invite you to share your memories and stories of Steve Colwell and how he had an impact or influenced your life in an email to LjBailey72@gmail.com to preserve them for his posterity and family history.
