Steven Russell Burdett, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, left this earth on Sunday, June 11, 2023 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Steve was born on October 20, 1950, to JV and Marjorie Burdett in Lubbock, Texas. He grew up in a farming family in O'Donnell and later moved to Lamesa, TX, where he graduated high school in 1969. The Lord gifted him with great speed and athletic ability, which helped him excel in sports in high school through adulthood. In 1975, he completed his bachelor's degree at Texas State University. During his college years, Steve began his walk with Christ which determined the course of the rest of his life. This included beginning his courtship of Debbie Cantwell, who he grew up with in Lamesa. After dating for one year, they were married in 1975. Their 48 years of marriage have been an example of love and devotion to countless friends and family. Professionally, Steve had an entrepreneurial spirit and spent most of his career in the insurance business helping his clients and friends through difficult times.
Throughout his life, Steve had many passions, including Texas Tech athletics (sometimes obsessively), playing golf and spending time with his extensive number of friends, being on the water at Possum Kingdom Lake or in the mountains of Colorado. He especially loved traveling the world with his beloved wife, Debbie, and spending time with his children and three grandchildren whom he adored. Steve was always generous with his time and well known for his ability to ask questions and make everyone around him feel cared for and important. He would constantly strike up conversations with people whom he had never met before. Steve truly never met a stranger.
Steve's relationship with the Lord was foundational. He had an unwavering faith and trust in God through both great and challenging times. Steve and Debbie raised their children to love the Lord and they played an instrumental role in bringing Young Life to Weatherford in 1991, which helped lead countless kids to Christ. He served as a deacon at Trinity Bible Church, where he and Debbie have been members for over 20 years.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents JV and Marjorie Burdett. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie Burdett; his son Brian Burdett and daughter Anna Grace; his daughter and son-in-law Brittany and Grant Irons and their sons Parker and Connor; his sister Sally and her son Brandon.
