Susan Emily Layne

Susan Emily Layne, age 74, gained her angel wings on Monday, September 19, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Susan was born to Frank and Gene (Holbrook) Bondello on February 23 rd, 1948 in California. She grew up spending time with her family at her grandparent's orange orchard and loved to share her memories of the good times she had with her family while visiting her grandparents. Susan also shared her mother's love for horses.

Susan loved to spend time outdoors and enjoyed many outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, jogging and horseback riding. She lived in California, Utah, Hawaii, and Colorado during her lifetime. She and her son Phillip eventually settled in Parker County so he could pursue his interest in cutting, and she was active for many years in various associations related to his interests.

Susan was smart, funny and had a generous heart. Her fiery spirit and quick wit will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Susan loved all animals and devoted a great deal of her time fostering, adopting, and caring for homeless animals. If you went to Susan's house for a visit, you were always greeted by a few exuberant dogs and happy cats. She was also a faithful volunteer at the Weatherford animal shelter and active with local rescues for many years until her health declined and she was no longer able to do so.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son Phillip, her brother Phillip Bondello, and her grandparents. She is survived by her good friends Karen and Jeff Mitchell and Kim and Dave Murray of Weatherford, an aunt, cousins, and many friends that knew and loved her. Her friends would like to thank Weatherford Healthcare and Clear Path Home Care for their loving care during the last year of her life.
