Thomas Lee Waltrip passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas, better known to friends and family as Tom or Bubba, was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, on September 7, 1953. He had a successful 43-year career in the oil and gas industry until his retirement in March of 2022. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid gardener and fisherman. Tom married the love of his life, Rita Casey, on October 18, 1985. He was devoted to his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; his daughters, Robin, Heather, and Hannah; his grandchildren, Austin, Kate, Hunter and Harrison; and his great grandsons, AJ and Andy. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Trey Roaten; his sister, Norma Jean Hale; father-in-law, David Casey; and brother-in-law, Dave Casey.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering love for his friends and family, strong work ethic, and humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization Tom held close to his heart.
A memorial service to honor and remember his life will be held at a future date.
