Vernon “Vern” Morris, 87, of Granbury, passed away on March 23, 2021, surrounded by his children.
Vern was born on December 16, 1933, in De Soto, Illinois. He was the youngest of 9 children born to James and Dossie Morris. He proudly served his country in both the US Army and then transferred to the US Air Force. On July 27, 1979, Vern married Shirley Ann Varner-Poole. He was a truck driver for the majority of his life. He loved to tell stories about his travels and experiences on the road, and told them often.
An avid outdoorsman, he particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing, and taught the majority of his grandchildren to fish. Vern was a jack of all trades, but loved working on cars the most, and could fix just about anything. He made it a point to teach his daughters and son as much as possible, including the hardest of life lessons. Most of all, Vern cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Tina Lynn (Brian) Smith of Granbury, Glenna Lynn Cline of South Carolina, Beth Ann (Jim) Collins of Weatherford, Heather Jolene (Corey) Rackliff of Weatherford, and Charles Vernon (Heather) Morris of Granbury; grandchildren, Joshua, Rusty, Jon, Breann, Adam, Micayla, Allen, Izyk, Alix, Keith, Andy, Jayson, Jared, Laura, and Mya; and several great grand children.
In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by his daughters, Lisa Ann Morris and Wendy Rae Hensley.
A private family service will be held April 3, 2021.
