William A. "Dub" Hobbs

July 16, 1928 — November 11, 2016

William Alvie (Dub) Hobbs Jr., age 88, a loving husband, father, Granddad and Great-Granddad, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 11, 2016. Dub was born on July 16, 1928, in Strawn, Texas, to William Alvie and Josephine Hobbs, and was raised in Perrin, Texas. Dub married his sweetheart, Juanell Cox, on October 26, 1951. God blessed them with two sons, Gary and Rick, and they celebrated 65 years together.
After graduating from high school, Dub served in the United States Air Force. After retirement from Brazos Electric Power Co-op, they enjoyed many years of traveling as members of the Holiday Rambler Chaparral Club. He also enjoyed carving with the Parker County Wood Chippers Club and a lifetime of fishing.
Faith and family have always been an important part of Dub’s life. He gave his heart to the Lord as a young boy and spent the rest of his life in Christian service. He was a longtime member of North Side Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and R.A.’s. He was active in the Sanctuary Choir, Foundation Singers, Evergreen Club and made regular visits as part of the Homebound Ministry of the church. He also worked with the Volunteer Christian Builders.
Dub was a man of integrity and good character. His good-natured sense of humor and ability to wiggle his ears brought joy and laughter to family and cherished friends. Dub’s wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends were the joy of his life. His life is their legacy and his love was his gift to his family. His memory will remain in their hearts forever.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and brother-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanell Hobbs; two sons, Gary Hobbs and wife, Jeanie, Rick Hobbs and wife, Melodie; four grandchildren, Will Hobbs, Zach Hobbs and wife, Audrey, Rachel Wagner and husband, Aaron, Amy Carr and husband, Jeff; the special blessing of four great-grandchildren, Henry and Cotton Hobbs; Eva and Everly Wagner; all of Weatherford. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bill Cox and wife, Fern, of Joshua, Texas and sister-in-law, Judy Hooper and husband, James, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service is 2:00 pm at North Side Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, November 14, 2016 at North Side Baptist Church. Burial is at Memory Gardens in Weatherford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church Heaven’s Handy Men.
