William Ray Smith, age 66, of Weatherford departed this life at home on July 7, 2016. William was the youngest of six children born to this union on September 12, 1949, in Weatherford, to Matt and Frankie Mae Smith. Willie was better known to his family as (Ray). He was married to the love of his life, Mercy D. (Tina) for over forty years, into this union was born two daughters, Denetra “Punkin” Smith and Stacie “Tata” Smith.
He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. After being discharged he started work as a rock crushing supervisor for over twenty years at Vulcan Materials and later worked at Martin-Marietta for over fifteen years. He enjoyed playing and umpiring softball as well as working in the yard or detailing cars. He was also an artist who enjoyed drawing portraits and making signs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mercy D; brother, Matt; and his sister, Margaret (Molly).
William is survived by his daughters, Denetra “Punkin” Smith and Stacie “Tata” Smith; his sister, Etta Ruth “Susie” Scott; his brothers, Leonard C Smith and Clem Lee Smith; and his grandson, Jalen Hightower.
Funeral service 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at North Side Baptist Church. Rev. Billie J. Thomas will officiate. Eulogist, Rev Mary Wilson-Horsley. Interment Hillcrest cemetery. Visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
