William Ray Smith

William Ray Smith age 66, of Weatherford departed this life at home on July 7, 2016. William was the youngest of six children born to this union on September 12, 1949 in Weatherford to Matt and Frankie Mae Smith. Willie was better known to his family as (Ray). He was married to the love of his life Mercy D. (Tina) for over forty years into this union was born two daughters Denetra “Punkin” Smith and Stacie “Tata” Smith.
He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. After being discharged he started work as a rock crushing supervisor for over twenty years at Vulcan Materials and later worked at Martin-Marietta for over fifteen years. He enjoyed playing and umpiring softball as well as working in the yard or detailing cars. He was also an artist who enjoyed drawing portraits and making signs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mercy D, brother Matt and his sister Margaret (Molly)
William is survived by his daughters, Denetra “Punkin” Smith and Stacie “Tata” Smith, his sister Etta Ruth “Susie” Scott, his brothers Leonard C Smith, Clem Lee Smith and his grandson Jalen Hightower.
Funeral service 10:00am Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at North Side Baptist Church. Rev Billie J. Thomas will officiate. Eulogist, Rev Mary Wilson-Horsley. Interment Hillcrest cemetery. Visitation 6-8pm Monday at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
