Yvonne Hillius Morrison

June 1, 1936 — May 16, 2019

With a song in her heart... Yvonne Ardith Morrison peacefully passed away on May 16th, 2019, at the age of 82.

Yvonne was born June 1, 1936, near Ellendale, North Dakota, to Fred and Pauline (Huber) Hillius. She attended college in Ellendale, North Dakota, receiving a teaching degree. Yvonne taught in McLaughlin, South Dakota, where she also met and married Leo Huber on December 25, 1957. They added three children to their family, a daughter, Wanda and two sons, Lowell and David. After seven years of marriage Leo unexpectedly passed away due to a hereditary kidney disorder.

Yvonne eventually moved to Leola, South Dakota were she continued teaching grade school. While accompanying the Methodist Church Choir she met and married Allen Morrison on June 18, 1967. Three years later their son, James, was born.

Yvonne had a great passion for teaching being greatly admired and respected by all who knew her. She taught piano lessons after school, served as a church pianist/organist and loved playing piano as a hobby. She felt blessed to teach in South Dakota for a total of 35 years up until her retirement in 1997. Yvonne and Allen moved to North Texas to be near their children.

Yvonne is lovingly remembered by her children, Wanda (Ray) Barreras, Lowell (Pam) Morrison, David Morrison and Jim (Sonia) Morrison. Yvonne (a.k.a. “Grandma Mo”) will be missed by her seven grandchildren, Chad (Misty) Spitzer, Rhonda (Tony) Geditz, Ben, Daniel and Jonathan Morrison, Ryan and Grant Morrison; and her six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kahlan and Elijah Spitzer and Zach, Tristan and Margaret Geditz. She will also be forever remembered and loved by her extended family members and dear friends.

Yvonne was predeceased by her father (Fred) and mother (Pauline); her husbands, Leo Huber and Allen Morrison.

In lieu of a funeral service, Yvonne’s wish as a final resting place was for her ashes to be scattered into a “huge” ocean wave.
